INTRO: Along with the Monsoon winds, model sisters Neelima and
Neerja are all set to storm Mumbai this July.
"INDIAN housewives don’t look as bad as some of the commercials or
TV serials portray them to be," says Neelima, the younger of the
Choahan sisters who are all set to shift to Mumbai in July. And apart
from playing housewives they are okay with most other projects.
Their portfolio is impressive (and that is an understatement) with
Pepsi, McDonald’s, Horlicks, Philips mobile phones, Reebok, Dettol,
Maruti Suzuki, Hewlett-Packard, SBI Cards, Avon and Mitsubishi Lancer
being among the brands that they have helped launch. You’ll also find
them on Khoobsurat (Zee TV) and Fashion Square (DD Metro).
The spunky duo has tried everything. Neelima, the younger one had
to do para jumping from a helicopter, survived a six-hour-long
elephant ride, and even gone rock climbing and river rafting on her
professional assignments.
"And you have to come out looking fresh as a tomato," she says
rolling her eyes in mock horror. The only thing she is not willing to
try is "Playing the epitome of tolerance and patience," saying "I
refuse to be slapped by a man, unless I get to slap back!"
She is emphatic that neither of the two will look good in the
stereotypical behanji type saris.
The sisters have not had it all easy either. Neelima, the younger
one is confident and eloquent after her years of struggle in the ad
world.
Neeraja, the elder one was not interested till she started
escorting her younger sister and immediately got noticed. She is still
finding her way around the big-bad ad-world.
For Neerja, the big break was the Philips ‘your voice turns me on’
press ad. "I was told they needed a lip shot, but I discovered
eventually that they had used a close shot of my face and released the
ad across Asia," she says.
Educated in Shimla, their father is an architect and their mother a
homemaker after getting a Ph.D. in English Literature.
Their dreams, however, don’t stop at modeling. They intend to
produce commercials, but only after they "evolve" as models.
Seeing the speed at which these two girls are evolving, it won’t be
long before we see an ad film directed and produced by them.
