Special Problems that you may have

Some of the problems that women face is that they are not financially independent, and hence when they make a complaint of cruelty they are left with no means of supporting themselves.

The other problem women in India face is that the law doesn’t recognize the existence of marital rape. Marital rape in India is not an offence. It is not a ground to make a criminal complaint. Most laws don’t recognize marital rape as possible, so when it takes place, women have to complain under cruelty in Section 498A of the Indian Penal Code.

Remember : Under the present law, if you have been raped or sexually assaulted by your husband you should make a complaint of cruelty under criminal law.

The other special problem faced by women is that they often after making the complaint, want to get back with their husband and give the marriage another chance, and for this reason cruelty is a compoundable offence
