What should I do when there is domestic violence or cruelty

Even though the law has not made adequate provisions for domestic violence or cruelty, and you can only complain under Section 498A of the Indian Penal Code it is important that you make this complaint. The section provides adequate protection to women, though no provisions for maintenance or even protection when the man is let out on bail.

Children get no protection under this law. So making a complaint of cruelty is the most important step you can take to ensure your safety from further domestic violence or cruelty.
